The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia has released its first annual A&S Research Report, offering a look back at the College’s research achievements over the past year and outlining its vision for the future of discovery across the liberal arts and sciences.

The report, Where Discovery Expands: Redefining Research Excellence in Arts & Sciences, showcases the school’s renewed commitment to research by highlighting faculty and student work that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries, explores urgent societal challenges and drives innovation.

In fiscal year 2024–25, Arts & Sciences committed $25 million as part of a new strategic research plan designed to build capacity, expand infrastructure and advance interdisciplinary research. The investment has helped spark new partnerships and build a stronger foundation for continued growth.

From the ethics of artificial intelligence to the intersections of neuroscience and philosophy, and from the origins of the universe to the role of the arts in climate resilience, the report illustrates the growing breadth and impact of research in Arts & Sciences. It also underscores the importance of supporting the people and partnerships that make research possible.
