Staff Matters: Volunteer Coordinators Needed for 2024 Day of Caring

Staff Matters

The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences has a proud history of sending 20-to-30 volunteers annually to United Way Laurence E. Richardson Day of Caring. This service event offers volunteers opportunities to give back to the Charlottesville community through projects at local nonprofits, including schools, libraries, the SPCA, Project Linus and elsewhere.

For seven years, the A&S community relied on Kim Turner, Finance & Administration Manager for the Department of Music and Cavalier Marching Band to coordinate its participation in the Day of Caring (2014 through 2021). The A&S community cannot thank her enough for lending her time and many talents to this important event outside her many other work commitments.

“The annual Day of Caring is one of this University’s great traditions and contributions to the community. The Dean’s Office and the A&S community owes a big debt of gratitute to Kim for all her efforts to connect her colleagues with service opportunities through this program,” A&S Dean Christa Acampora said.

With Kim stepping down from managing this volunteer program for the College, it’s time to find someone to step into her shoes and take the lead. One or two volunteer coordinators will be needed to oversee the A&S contribution to the 2024 Day of Caring. The coordinator (or co-coordinators) work from late July until the event in mid-September with United Way organizers, managing the sign-up process in A&S.
